As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, the IIR is working in partnership with the Immigrant Learning Center, the George Mason University CHSSWeb team, and with reference support from the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, to create an online, interactive historical digital timeline featuring immigration data, immigration policies, and notable immigrants who made lasting contributions to the United States.
The timeline will show how whether serving in the military, gracing the small or big screen or stage, creating businesses, working in world class kitchens, designing clothes, composing music, stepping up to the plate, being a leader in science or medicine, or holding public office or positions within the U.S. government, immigrants have always been part of the United States story. By blending data and narratives, the timeline will show the lived experiences behind the numbers. The timeline is set to be completed by June 2026.
