Prospective Visiting Scholars

The Institute for Immigration Research (IIR) regularly hosts visiting scholars for research stays at George Mason University. These research opportunities allow PhD candidates and early stage career scholars with opportunities to conduct their own independent research, participate in the IIR's events and initiatives, and engage in mutually beneficial exchange of research ideas with IIR staff, students, and faculty affiliates.

As visiting scholars at the IIR, individuals receive mentorship and scholarly support, work space at the IIR, and access to library and research infrastructure at George Mason University. The IIR can typically only sponsor stays of 9- to 12-months for which visiting scholars have secured their own university or external funding.

If you are interested in becoming a visiting scholar at the IIR, please email to iir[at] your:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Brief abstract [maximum 500 words], in which you describe:
    • the intended project for your visit to the IIR;
    • how the project aligns with the IIR's mission and research focus areas;
    • the resources or faculty collaboration at George Mason University central to your project.
