WHY IIR OUTREACH & EDUCATION?
The Institute for Immigration Research (IIR) brings research beyond the university by connecting scholars, students, educators, community organizations, policymakers and the public with reliable information and one another.
Through public programs, education, training, events and partnerships, IIR creates opportunities to learn about immigration from multiple perspectives while building stronger networks among the people studying, serving and shaping immigrant communities.
HOW WE CONNECT
PUBLIC EDUCATION
Making immigration research accessible beyond academia through webinars, presentations, lectures, workshops, newsletters, digital content, social media, op-eds and public-facing resources.
EVENTS & CONVENINGS
Creating spaces where researchers, students, community organizations and the public can exchange ideas through colloquia, symposiums, book talks, conferences, exhibitions and other public programs.
NETWORKS & PARTNERSHIPS

STUDENT TRAINING & MENTORSHIP
Preparing the next generation of researchers through graduate research assistantships, internships, mentorship and hands-on experience in quantitative, geospatial and qualitative research, storytelling and public engagement.
RESEARCH AMPLIFICATION
Helping important immigration scholarship reach broader audiences by elevating the work of IIR researchers, Mason faculty and partners through events, communications, media, digital platforms and public engagement.
FEATURED INITIATIVE
BUILDING AN IMPACT NETWORK
Important work on immigration is happening every day across universities, nonprofits, government agencies, cultural organizations and communities. Too often, the people doing that work are disconnected from one another.
IIR is changing that.
Through its growing network of researchers, educators, students and community organizations, IIR is creating stronger connections across George Mason University and throughout the DMV immigration community helping people discover resources, share research, identify collaborators and bring new perspectives into the public conversation.
