Hosted by the Rumi Forum and presented by Dr. James Witte, Director of the Institute for Immigration Research, this talk will introduce the newly created Institute for Immigration Research (IIR) at George Mason University. The mission of the IIR is to refocus the immigration conversation among academic, policy-makers and the public by producing and disseminating unbiased and objective, interdisciplinary academic research related to immigrants and immigration to the United States. The talk will review initial findings summarizing the geographic dispersion and occupational concentration of immigrants based on U.S. Census data. Special attention will be paid to U.S. workers born in Turkey and other countries with large Turkic populations.
