A Conversation with the Villalobos Brothers

A Conversation with the Villalobos Brothers

As part of the Institution for Immigration Research (IIR) Fall Colloquium Series, on Tuesday, October 22nd, the IIR along with College of Visual and Performing Arts welcomed the GRAMMY Award-winning Villalobos Brothers for an engaging conversation and interactive experience with faculty, students, and the community. The event was moderated by Dr. Rick Davis, Dean of College of Visual and Performing Arts at George Mason University and Dr. Jim Witte, Director of the IIR at George Mason University. The Villalobos Brothers were at George Mason as part of the Hylton Performing Arts Center’s Artist-in-Residence Program.

Hailing from the culturally rich Mexican province of Veracruz, the brothers Alberto, Ernesto, and Luis have shared the stage with the San Francisco Symphony, and collaborated with such legendary artists as Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton, Antonio Sánchez, Regina Carter, Eduardo Magallanes, Dan Zanes, The Chieftains, and Ana Tijoux.

During the event, Ernesto, Alberto and Luis discussed their lives as artists and immigrants and how those identities intersect and influence each other. The Villalobos Brothers are redefining contemporary Mexican music while delivering positive messages of brotherhood, equity, and love.
